MOULD INFO & FAQS

THANK YOU for purchasing my Glitzy Glitter Supplies mould/s.  I am excited that other people love resin jewellery craft as much as I do.  Your mould is 100% handmade inside a family home environment!  As this is fully and entirely a handmade product, please note that some minor flaws and imperfections can and will occur.  I have done my absolute best to create a flawless product but I work only with my hands and not with the help of any machinery.  You may find air bubbles here and there and sometimes the odd smear on the face of the mould.  This doesn't always happen on all my moulds, but is consistent with it being handmade.  Just like our jewellery craft isn't 100% perfect, but very close to, my mould will not be 100% perfect.  I highly recommend mild sanding and possibly resin top coating / doming your resin piece to create character in your jewellery and to make a piece as perfect as possible to wow yourself and your customers.  Please DM me if you have any problems, and I will work with you to come to a resolution.

1✅MEET THE MAKER: Who runs Glitzy Glitter Supplies?
I (Mel) am from Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. I own GGS and also own a small hobby earring business. I am an ICU Nurse of over 20 years, I am a Mum of 3 and love craft, sewing and Jesus! I am an avid seamstress and sew a LOT! I am heavily involved in the craft scene and love creating and seeing others create from scratch!

2✅You  don’t sell glitter, sooo...why are you called Glitzy **GLITTER** Supplies?
Well for starters I absolutely ❤️ Glitter and started out making resin pieces using glitter, pigments and dye. My good friend Ainz and I decided to collaborate and start an online biz whereby Ainz sold handmixed glitters and I made and sold handmade silicone moulds. The word “mould” didn’t sound nice when used in a business title and website! We stuck with glitter because, well, what a pretty word it is! Anyway, just under a year later, Ainz’s business(es) were going gangbusters so she decided to concentrate solely on @ritzyglitzyearrings and I have decided to continue running @glitzyglitterAUS alone selling just the moulds and findings. I love the name and it has just stuck with me, however I am currently thinking of rebranding my name.
3✅Do you create custom moulds?  Do you do custom digital designs?  And can I substitute out shapes I don't want and get them replaced by other shapes?
I am afraid no.  I do not do custom designs as of May 2021.  Nor do I do any custom moulds, or custom arrangements of moulds. This is to make my shopify and etsy orders as streamlined as possible.
4✅How heavy and deep are your moulds?
Small moulds are approximately 40g to 60g. Square moulds are 120-130g. I aim to pour to a depth of 9-11mm depending on how big the mould is.
5✅Are Glitzy Glitter moulds food safe?
Unfortunately no they are not food safe.
6✅What are the silicone moulds made of?
The moulds are made of silicone only compatible with epoxy resin.
7✅What resin do you recommend?
I have used the following resin: Diamond Cote from Just Resin and resin from Clearpox, all sourceable within Australia. I also recommend Health Of Mind Art resin.
8✅Are the moulds compatible with UV resin?
The coloured moulds are not compatible with UV resin because UV cannot penetrate opaque silicone.  You can use UV resin with our translucent moulds.  If you require a translucent mould, please either leave a note at checkout, or message me via insta or glitzyglitteraus@gmail. com as soon as you have checked out.
9✅Can the moulds withstand heat?  No they can't withstand heat. Please take extreme caution if you must bring a heat gun or heat source to your resin inside this mould.
10Will the mould look exactly like the pictured listingAlthough I will use the same blank to create the mould, your actual mould could be of a different colour and shape.
11✅How do I store my mould?  Please try to store your mould flat. Moulds can be stored on top of each other. If you’re worried about them sticking together during the warmer months, you can separate them with paper.
12✅How do I clean my mould?  To clean place a little bit of washing detergent on your fingers and rub onto your mould under water.  Air dry. If you find there is excessive dust, hair and glitter adhering to your mould, use some (not overly sticky) sticky tape and carefully pick up the hair, dust and glitter.
13What is your turnaround time for the moulds?  All the moulds are made to order.  Turnaround time is approx 5 days no matter what postage option is selected.
14✅You have a lot of moulds with narrow areas and small nooks and crannies. How do you avoid chips and bubbles in your finished resin pieces?  These are a few tips I have when using moulds that have a lot of thin areas and /or nooks and crannies. I call these intermediate moulds, because they’re much more challenging than say using a mould that is a plain circle or that has a large open surface area and smooth edges. To avoid bubbles and chips :
1 Prepare glitter selections into pots. I use muffin silicone pots so I have less waste
2 Try to get as many bubbles out at the beginning as possible. There are a lot of tips to do this but here is what I do: Firstly with the mixing process, I let the resin sit for 3 mins after stirring just to let any bubbles come to the surface. Avoid stirring your resin too fast. A chemical reaction occurs when parts a and b are mixed together and when stirred too vigorously, this causes the resin to heat up far too quickly making it tacky faster, and reducing your pot life/work time.
3 Then I fill the tiny crevices like the thin areas, narrow pointy areas and any corners , With FRESH clear (just newly mixed ) runny *NO GLITTER* resin.  I use a toothpick to move the resin to the corners and inspect the corners to ensure there are absolutely no tiny bubbles.  It is easy to see bubbles in fresh resin that has NO glitter in it.
4 Don’t worry if you have just overfilled your mould. It is normal to over fill your mould with the fresh resin. To remove resin, get a paddle pop stick and scoop out the fresh resin so the mould isn’t overfilled. The remaining resin will stay LEVEL on the surface of your mould bubble free. Re-Inspect those narrow areas where bubbles like to hide.
Prepare your glitter (often finer glitter works better inside narrow places).   Pour drops of resin on top of your glitter to make a PASTE. Then I put the resin glitter paste into the mould which has your fresh resin in it already, and use a toothpick to evenly mix it inside the mould, ensuring it’s nicely mixed. I use a clean toothpick or something plastic with a flat edge and horizontally scrape to remove any overfill from the mould.
With this process I don’t get any chips in my thin moulds - like my XOXO moulds, my octopus tentacles moulds, anything with pointy nooks and crannies. The  real trick is utilising that FRESH RUNNY BEAUTIFUL no-glitter resin and coating the base of your mould with it.  Large Chips can weaken a finished resin piece and are undesirable as often they’re noticeable and need to be fixed BEFORE top coating .I hope this helps!Happy resining!❤️Mel
